Collection Outline

Explore in whichever order feels right, and return to any section as often as you need to.

This collection is organized in two parts. The first was gathered specifically for those facing the end of life and those who walk alongside them. The second, beginning with To Think or Not to Think? explores Eckhart's foundational teachings on Presence, awareness, and stillness.

Part One: The Nature of Impermanence

Teachings on Death, Dying, and Grief

According to Eckhart, our fear of death is inseparable from our fear of life, both rooted in identifying with form rather than the formless dimension that's always present within us. Rather than looking away from mortality, these talks meet it directly, offering a way of relating to death, and to the dying process itself, grounded in presence rather than resistance.

Eckhart Answers Questions on Death, Dying, and Grief

In these Q&A conversations, Eckhart responds to questions many people carry during this time: What happens when we die? How do we face fear? How do we live with loss? His answers offer comfort, clarity, and a deeper way of understanding death as a transition.

Conscious Caregiving

This section focuses on what Eckhart calls the essence of spirituality: knowing yourself as the formless even as you continue to take action in the world of form. Woven throughout are Q&A conversations between Eckhart and caregivers, addressing what it actually looks like to hold this balance while caring for someone else.

Meditations for Inner Peace

This section includes both video and audio meditations with Eckhart and Kim Eng, selected in partnership with organizations that work directly in hospice care. Return to them whenever you need a quiet place to rest.

Part 2: Eckhart's Foundational Teachings

To Think or Not to Think?

This section explores how we find freedom from identification with the thinking mind. According to Eckhart, the main source of our suffering, both personal and collective, comes from the mistaken belief that we are the contents of our thoughts. Breaking free from that identification opens access to a different kind of intelligence, one that begins simply by aligning with the reality of the present moment.

Portals to Presence

This section focuses on what Eckhart calls "portals to Presence," the avenues through which we move beyond the mind-made sense of self and into the formless dimension of Presence. He describes three common entry points: through activity, through unstructured time, and through challenges as they arise, along with three modalities of conscious doing (acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm).

Unconsciousness and the Pain-Body

This section explores the nature of human reactivity and what Eckhart calls "the pain-body," the accumulated emotional pain we carry and sometimes unconsciously reactivate. He offers practices for recognizing these patterns as they arise, so we can become a source of steadiness rather than adding to suffering, our own or someone else's.

Understanding Ego

This section turns to the world of relationships, including Eckhart's teachings on the ego and our tendency toward "story making," the narratives that create unnecessary suffering. Relationships, especially under the weight of illness, caregiving, or loss, tend to surface exactly where a person stands in their own process, and offer real opportunities to bring more presence into the moment.

The Purpose of Life

This closing section brings together the collection's central themes and Eckhart's fundamental teaching on our shared human purpose: to live as an expression of the timeless dimension, and in doing so, become a source of benevolence, service, and genuine intelligence in the world.

Bonus Teachings

For those who wish to go deeper, this section includes the Deepening Presence video series with Eckhart and Kim Eng, along with additional teaching sessions.
